Digital Citizenship

Our district's policies on technology and AI are rooted in our commitment to fostering responsible digital citizenship, enhancing engagement, and preparing students for a technology-driven world. The relevant policies include PO7540.09, PO7540.03, PO5136, PO5500, and PO7544.

Technology is a component of almost all of our instructional programs. Technology offers elementary students benefits like enhanced engagement through interactive tools, personalized learning experiences that adapt to their pace, and access to a wider range of resources beyond traditional textbooks. It also helps develop essential real-world skills, fosters collaboration, and prepares them for the future by building digital literacy.

While our district does select and identify curriculum materials for implementation across grade levels, we do not dictate specific instructional strategies. We led a committee to develop a toolkit for teachers on AI tools for both educators and students and offer multiple training opportunities throughout the year. Teachers are recognized as experts in knowing what is appropriate for their students, and they tailor their instructional approaches accordingly. Our educators receive ongoing professional development in the use of AI and technology.

Regarding technology access and monitoring, our tech department has been working on the parent portal within our web monitoring tools. Parents can log in with their child's login via Clever to see the programs their children are using. The SDPC site ensures SB29 compliance and provides parent insight into the programs that collect student data. For more detailed information, you can visit the district's profile.
