 The Avon Lake City School District promotes openness, transparency and the sharing of ideas. The District has built this page to provide an additional method of communication with our parents, staff, students and community.

 The purpose of this page is to regularly share information about the Avon Lake City School District, including student and staff achievements, upcoming events, schedule changes, school closings, as well as other relevant school district community information. We appreciate the opportunity social media provides us to engage our families and community members while allowing us to express ideas and share opinions regarding school-related issues that are in the best interest of our schools. The District acknowledges the importance of social media as a means of two-way communication and the exchange of differing viewpoints. As such, the District takes very seriously its responsibility to provide a safe and appropriate forum that encourages residents to participate and take an active interest in our schools. We invite you to join the conversation about the Avon Lake City School District to help keep this page engaging, friendly and active.

 This policy is intended to outline the District’s approach to using our social media platforms as limited public forums, and to ensure its content reflects the mission, goals and vision of the Avon Lake City School District. While constructive criticism, diverse viewpoints, and respectful disagreements are welcome within the framework of this forum, there are circumstances in which the District may regulate speech on our social media platforms, which includes but is not limited to the following:

 
A.      Speech that is vulgar, profane, abusive, disruptive, prejudicial, or inflammatory.

 

B.      Speech that is defamatory, libelous, or false that may damage the reputation of individual or the school district.

 

C.     Speech that disrupts the District’s educational environment, including posts that incite or promote violence, bullying or illegal activities.

 

D.     Speech that violates federal, state, or local laws, including hate speech, harassment, discrimination, or threats of violence.

 

E.       Speech that invades the privacy rights of individuals or divulges confidential or sensitive information.

 

F.       You may not post any content that contains company or service advertisements, endorsements, solicitation, or promotion of commercial products and services.

 

G.     Speech that is not consistent with preserving the purpose of which the forum is dedicated.

 

H.     Speech that is disruptive to the operation of the form.

 
Posts made by third parties not associated with the Avon Lake City School District do not reflect the opinion of the District. However, this social media account represents a limited public forum for the purpose(s) set forth above, and administrators or individuals designated to moderate school district social media platforms reserve the right to remove comments at their discretion in accordance with this policy and pursuant to state and federal law. When content is removed, the District will make reasonable efforts to inform the individuals responsible for the post and provide an explanation for the action taken.
