Approximately eighty families including over one hundred students attended the exciting Fall Into Literacy event at Eastview Elementary on Wednesday, November 20th. All attendees had the opportunity to explore valuable literacy resources while enjoying a variety of treats and raffle prizes. Special guest Olivia Weisman, a Literacy Specialist from the Educational Service Center of Lorain County, guided families through the importance of reading at home and engaging with kids at all reading levels. Families rotated through her station and others labeled Decoding, Fluency, Comprehension, and finally finished off in the gym and cafeteria perusing community resources and enjoying treats.

An abundance of local businesses and organizations supported the event, including Avon Lake Public Library, Lorain County Children and Families First Council, Marcos Pizza (Avon Lake), Crumbl Cookie (Avon) Nothing Bundt Cakes (Avon) Giant Eagle (Avon Lake) which donated donuts, and Annies Auto Body which provided Boogie Boards (writing tablets) for the families to take away. Eastview PTA also provided generous support for the event by supplying t-shirts for the staff, as well as sponsoring and donating items for decorations. Student volunteers also played a key role, including students organized by the Eastview PTA, members of the ALHS Key Club and National Honor Society, and students from Learwood Middle School. A special thank you to the Eastview staff, including Literacy Night Committee leaders Amy Bohm and Kristin Feronti, for their dedicated efforts with planning and volunteering for Eastview Elementary’s first ever Fall Into Literacy Night!
