News - Westview Elementary Flag Helpers Display School and Civic Pride

Published on

Third and Fourth grade students at Westview Elementary School are integrating the handling of the American flag into their daily educational routines and fostering civic pride while engaging in hands-on learning. Throughout the school year, students will work under the careful guidance of building custodian, Mr. Bill Grainger. Properly unfolding, displaying, and tying off the flag in the morning, as well as taking it down and folding the flag in the afternoon are no menial tasks. Fourth grade students assist in the morning and raise the flag, while third graders tend to lowering it in the afternoon. These rituals will help familiarize students with the proper and ceremonial handling of the flag and provide a sense of pride, unity, and personal responsibility within the student body. By incorporating the American flag into discussions and routines, third and fourth graders will gain a deeper appreciation for their heritage and traditions. Thank you to Mr. Grainger and Mr. Moore for helping to build the ALCS legacy in this hands-on way!
