Physical Education 101

Course Overview:

Physical Education 101 class is designed to introduce the student to a sample of all the class offerings in our department.  Students will be instructed approximately 4-5 weeks each in team sports, lifetime sports and in the weight room.  This will give the student an introduction to each of the classes that they then can choose for their second physical education class here at the high school.   Students can expect to participate in basic lifting techniques and safety during the weight room unit.  Team Sports unit may include but not limited to: ultimate Frisbee, soccer, floor hockey, volleyball, football, wiffle ball and basketball.  Lifetime sports units may include but are not limited to: pickleball, tennis, ping pong, corn hole, can jam, spike ball and recreational games.  There will be a Fitness handbook that all students will complete during the first week to gain an understanding of the value of fitness and have adequate information to form a basis for starting and continuing a lifetime fitness program.  Students will also participate in the FitnessGram testing the first week of the quarter and end of the semester.

1st Quarter- 

  • First 2 weeks are instructional with a PE Fitness  Handbook covering the health and skill components of physical fitness.  (Chap 6 from Comprehensive Health book)

  • Students will take 2 quizzes covering the information provided in powerpoint

  • Students will participate in a  sport on Monday, Wednesday and Friday

  • Students are in the weight room on Tuesday and Thursday instructed on safety, proper lifting technique with machines and cardio work.

2nd Quarter- 

  • Students will continue with different  sports for the first couple of weeks.

  • Students will develop their own Invent A Game.  Once they have approval for their game they will teach it to the class.  Students will then make needed changes to their game after the first day and then teach it with the changes a second day.

  • Students will participate in other students' Invent A Game.  

  • The semester concludes with students teaching and playing all the Invent A Games

  • This class is not just about the semester but about their lifetime so students are comfortable going into a workout facility and know the safety and training procedures along with different types/levels of exercise.
