Lifetime Sports
Course Overview:
Lifetime Sports are activities in which a person can participate over the course of a lifetime and help contribute to the development of health-related components of physical fitness through sport.
The course standards promote the development of a physically educated person, who is defined as one who has learned skills necessary to perform a variety of physical activities, is physically fit, participates regularly in physical activity, and knows the implications of and the benefits from involvement in physical activities, and values physical activity and its contribution to a healthful lifestyle.
Lifetime sports students will participate in a variety of physical activities included but not limited to: bowling, golf, badminton, pickleball, tennis, backyard games and curling. Students will also be introduced to the weight room and instructed on safety and proper lifting technique using the machines and dumbbells. They will also be expected to complete the PE Fitness Handbook–the education side of Physical Education Class.

First Quarter
- First 2 weeks are instructional with a PE Fitness Handbook covering the health and skill components of physical fitness. (Chap 6 from Comprehensive Health book)
- Students will take 2 quizzes covering the information provided in powerpoint
- Students will participate in a Lifetime sport on Monday, Wednesday and Friday
- Students are in the weight room on Tuesday and Thursday instructed on safety, proper lifting technique with machines, dumbbells and cardio work.
Second Quarter
- Students will continue with different lifetime sports which usually includes bowling and golf during the second quarter. There is a daily fee students pay to the Spevock bowling and Sweetbriar Golf course.
- Students are instructed on scoring and etiquette of bowling as well as golf.
- Students are taught basic skills used in each activity to be an active participant.
