Kindergarten Vocal Music
Course Overview:
Students follow a Kodaly-based curriculum, focused on developing basic musical knowledge. Students will develop a love of singing, with the goal of singing in tune alone and with others.

1st Quarter - Finding our Singing Voice
- Vocal Exploration
- 4 voices (whisper, talk, shout, sing)
- High and Low
- Steady Beat
- Students will begin to demonstrate an awareness of keeping the beat
2nd Quarter - Keep the Beat
- Steady Beat
- Students will show proficiency keeping a steady beat using physical movement
- Students will track the beat given a visual aid
- Performance Skills
- Group singing, riser etiquette, following a conductor’s cues
3rd Quarter - Opposites
- Large work study: “Carnival of the Animals”
- Students will move purposefully to recorded music
- Students will use musical vocabulary to describe music

4th Quarter - Patterns
- Large work study (continued): “Carnival of the Animals”
- Form
- Recognize same and different musical sections
- Recognize patterns in music
