Grade 4 Vocal Music



Content Overview: 

Students follow a Kodaly-based curriculum, focused on skill development to foster music literacy.  Students continue to develop partwork skills.  Letter names on the treble clef are introduced as students learn to play the recorder.

Assessments: 

Classroom activities and projects, recorder playing tests

 

Standards/Learning Goals 

1st Quarter- 

  • Rhythm:  Review grade three rhythms.  Present whole note.

  • Melody:  Review solfege in the extended pentatonic scale (s, l, d r m s l d’)

  • Recorder: Letter names on the treble clef

2nd Quarter- 

  • Rhythm:  Whole note

  • Melody:  Solfege syllable fa

  • Meter: Simple vs. compound 

  • Recorder:  playing skills and letter names (BAG) on the treble clef

3rd Quarter- 

  • Rhythm: dotted quarter, three eighth notes, and dotted quarter rest in compound meter

  • Melody: Solfege syllable ti

  • Meter: Show real time signatures (2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/8)

  • Recorder:  playing skills and letter names (high C and D) on the treble clef

4th Quarter -  

  • Rhythm: quarter-eighth in compound meter

  • Begin counting with numbers (in addition to rhythm syllables) in simple meter

  • Melody: Major and Minor Scales

  • Recorder: playing skills and letter names (low E, low D) on the treble clef
