News - Redwood Elementary Boxes Out Hunger

Published on

Redwood families and staff demonstrated their generosity and commitment to making a positive impact in their community through the recent Mission Box Out Hunger food donation campaign. The school-wide initiative was kicked off with an energetic themed assembly in early October during which staff members dressed up like detectives complete with long coats, wide-brimmed hats, and sunglasses, and encouraged students to be a “kindness agent” in their school community through words and actions. The Redwood School community responded by donating an impressive number of non-perishable boxed items such as cereal, pasta, mac & cheese, rice, crackers, and granola bars. The campaign culminated in unforgettable fashion with all the boxes lined up in the school hallways to create a giant domino chain! Students and staff cheered and clapped with excitement as they watched the domino chain race throughout the school. Afterwards, all donated items were boxed up and delivered to the Community Resource Services food pantry in support of the organization’s SOUPer Bowl Food Drive. A special thank you to our Avon Lake High School helpers who worked behind the scenes to set up the domino chain. Thank you to all Redwood families who made the school’s kindness mission such a success!
