News - Distinguished ALHS Students Celebrated at National Merit Awards Breakfast

Michael O’Brien, National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalist, and potential Finalist, along with Commended National Merit Scholars Cadence Laufer, Ava Molina, and Nila Sparkes stand with Superintendent Magyar

Avon Lake High School students, parents, and administrators gathered on October 30th to celebrate the outstanding achievements of a distinguished group of students at the National Merit Awards Breakfast. Michael O’Brien, National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalist, and potential Finalist, along with Commended National Merit Scholars Cadence Laufer, Ava Molina, and Nila Sparkes were formally introduced and presented their awards in the audience of loved ones and school leaders. They earned these distinctions by scoring competitively on the PSAT. Led by Avon Lake High School Principal Michael May, this group of outstanding students were congratulated at the breakfast by School Board Member Jenefer Machovina, Superintendent Joelle Magyar, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jack Dibee and Director of Operations Dr. Ned Lauver, as well as Guidance Counselors, Assistant Principals, and various office staff members. The students shared about activities they are involved in, their favorite school courses, and plans for the future before formally accepting their certificates. Congratulations to Michael, Cadence, Ava, and Nila on this exceptional achievement and best of luck with your future endeavors!
