Question-and-Answer: Why did the Board of Education pass a resolution to rescind 1.5 mills of permanent improvement funding in June?
(posted 10.9.2024)
Answer: This action was taken because the new bond issue includes 1 mill of Permanent Improvement funding. If passed, there will be new facilities thus reducing the number of campuses ALCS is currently maintaining. The existing PI would be up for renewal in 2026, so the ALCS wanted to unburden taxpayers if the November 2024 bond issue passes. The rescinding of the current PI funding will occur only if the November bond issue passes, because the reduction in PI millage is contingent upon new buildings being built.

Comparable Communities & Corresponding Tax Rates
(posted 9.20.2024)
Property values are calculated based on the value of your property and the tax rate within your city. The below chart lists the residential tax rates by city for tax year 2023. To determine the estimated full year tax amount, multiply your home's market value by the percentage listed.
The average market value of a home in Avon Lake is approximately $300,000. The chart below compares how much taxes would be for a $300,000 home in each city. An Avon Lake tax payer pays $2,670 less in taxes than a Bay Village tax payer for a home with the same value.
