News - Communication Regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19)

As we continue to work on creating and maintaining as safe of an environment as possible at Avon Lake City Schools, school activities/events that include other people beside our students must be addressed.  These activities/events may be at school or may require travel (field trips, in-state and out-of-state).

  • We will look at and make a determination to cancel the activity/event, reschedule the activity/event, modify the activity/event, or hold the activity/event without modification on an activity/event by activity/event basis.
  • We will make these decisions with the assistance of our local and state healthcare experts.
  • There is not a perfect system to make these determinations and we will always err on the side of caution (for students, staff, family members, and the community).
  • Limiting our students being exposed to the coronavirus or other illnesses is an important part of our objective concerning activities/events, but we are also focused on students who return from activities/events who may expose other students, staff, family members, and community members to the coronavirus or other illnesses (becoming carriers).

We are currently focusing on the activities/events that will take place before Spring Break which begins April 10th.

We want to echo the recommendation by the CDC and other healthcare organizations that if you are in an at-risk age category or are having health issues, you should avoid any activity/event that could expose you to the coronavirus or other illnesses.

Thank you for your patience with this issue.  We know that everything concerning coronavirus can change quickly and we are monitoring the situation closely.  With the help of our state and local healthcare experts we will continue to develop plans and implement those plans as appropriate.
