News - Important Update from Avon Lake City Schools

Dear Avon Lake School Families,

We hope you are enjoying the holiday season and our break from school.

Avon Lake City School District has made every effort to maintain a consistent learning environment since the start of the 2020-2021 school year.  As we continue to collaborate with state and local health professionals we believe that the best course of action to safely and conscientiously move into the new year is to have remote learning for the first week of January to gage what effect the holidays may have had on Covid spread.

In-person learning is based on being able to adequately staff our schools.  For educational consistency  and the safety of staff and students we will adjust the schedule as follows:

  • All Avon Lake City Schools will be closed for students only on Monday, January 4, 2021.  This will be a regular staff work day for all district staff.

  • From January 5-8, 2021, classes will be held PK-12 through on-line learning only.

  • Building principals will send out specific information for materials pickup, logging onto classes as well as the daily schedule by the end of the day on Wednesday, December 30, 2020

  • Lunches will be available for pickup at each building beginning at 11:00 AM.

  • In-person classes will tentatively resume on Monday, January 11, 2021.

  • The first semester ends on Friday, January 15, 2021.

  • Monday, January 18, 2021 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  All schools and offices will be closed.

  • Semester exams for Avon Lake High School have been rescheduled to January 20-22, 2021.

As we have mentioned before, it is important for everyone to be prepared for the possibility of moving to full-remote status for an individual building or the entire district on short notice. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as things can change quickly.

Please continue to wear your facial coverings, wash your hands, limit gatherings, and social distance.

Wishing you the best in 2021!
