Yoga, Balance & Core

Course Overview:

Yoga, Balance and Core is designed to benefit the student that wants the opportunity to learn yoga, balance training and weight training concepts and techniques used for obtaining optimal physical fitness.  The student will develop cognitive, social and physical skills through conditioning and toning activities. These exercises shall include yoga, circuits, flexibility, balance, active isolated stretching exercises.  The course includes both lecture and activity sessions.  Students will be empowered to make wise choices, meet challenges, and develop positive behaviors in fitness, wellness and movement activity for a lifetime.

1st Quarter- 

  • First 4 weeks are instructional with a YBC handbook covering the health and skill components of physical fitness.  Includes 6 chapters.  

  • Students will take 3 quizzes covering the 6 chapters

  • Students will participate in Yoga, Balance/Core, Upperbody strength, lower body/cardio and walking workouts during each week.

2nd Quarter- 

  • Students will continue with weekly workouts of Yoga, balance/core, upper body strength, lower body strength and walking.

  • The semester concludes with students developing their own workout plan that includes yoga, balance, strength and core exercises to be able to use in the future.

  • This class is not just about the semester but about their lifetime so students are comfortable going into a workout facility and know the safety and training procedures along with different types/levels of exercise.
