Troy News - Updated Back to School Plan, 2020-2021 School Year

Dear Avon Lake Community,

Thank you for the feedback we have received on our Back to School Plan.  As was stated in the presentation, the plan is fluid and changes will continue to be made as we receive more information.

One change that is being made to the plan, based on overwhelming feedback from parents and staff, as well as guidance from local and state officials is related to masks and facial coverings.  All students and staff, K-12 will be required to wear masks or facial coverings while at school.  There will be times where students will be able to remove them for mask breaks, or for instruction which requires students to be able to work on language development and similar activities.  We will still grant exceptions for medical reasons and extenuating circumstances.  However, any exceptions for medical reasons will require a physician's order.  The newest update of the plan on the website will reflect these changes.

We also are planning several live Zoom and YouTube Live events for parents to ask questions about the plan and receive more information.

These events are scheduled for:

Tuesday, July 28, 1:00 PM
Wednesday, July 29, 9:00 AM
Wednesday, July 29 6:30 PM

Links to log on to these events will be posted on the district website shortly before each event.

It is also our intention to ask the Board of Education to delay the start of the school year for students until Monday, August 31.  This will give us time to provide training and planning for our staff to prepare for the upcoming school year.

Thank you for all of your support.

Sincerely,

Robert Scott, Superintendent
