News - Holiday Giving Initiatives Help Local Families in Need
Published on
The Avon Lake City Schools community has built a legacy of compassion and care, demonstrated by building initiatives which help local families during the holiday season. The generosity of the Avon Lake students and their families was felt at the elementary and intermediate level in tangible ways as various collections took place before winter break. Redwood Elementary School collected household essentials such as toiletries, cleaning supplies, blankets, and bath towels, along with family board games for its Blizzard of Kindness initiative. They partnered with The Neighborhood Alliance to distribute these items to families in need within the Avon Lake community, which is in line with the Alliance’s mission of providing support for immediate need, growth, and enrichment. Thank you for the Redwood community’s generosity this holiday season!
At Westview Elementary, the K-Kids Toy Drive on behalf of Community Resource Services was a phenomenal success! Thanks to the incredible generosity and kindness of our students and their families, 12 boxes were filled with toys that will be sure to make their recipients very happy. This outcome and effort invested demonstrates the true spirit of giving within our school. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of children right here in our community!
Troy Intermediate School supported Ronald McDonald House’s mission to help families stay close to their children and care for them during prolonged medical treatments. Students contributed a new toy or a specific item from the Amazon Wish List provided by Ronald McDonald House. Donated items included assorted children's toys, books, board games, dolls, and other household items which were then placed under the tree inside the school. Gift cards were collected on behalf of the families in need of support this holiday season. All students who donated were recognized with their name written on a paper bulb which was then displayed in the “Light Up Troy” hallway. Just as the individual bulbs were part of a larger community, the families of Troy Intermediate demonstrated togetherness and belonging by contributing to this fantastic cause and helping families struggling with specific needs. Special thanks to the Troy Intermediate Kids in the Community group for the role they played in support of this initiative.
The spirit of generosity and giving was evident across the district in recent weeks and the Avon Lake community is grateful to ALCS students, family members, and staff for their incredible support on behalf of local families during the holiday season.
