News - Learwood Hosts Pearl Harbor Ceremony with American Legion

Published on

Students and staff at Learwood hosted a brief, but commemorative ceremony in honor of the memory of those involved on the morning of December 7th, 1941, and the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Devoted members of the American Legion Post 211 were in attendance outside the main doors near the flagpoles and helped to create a solemn environment amidst the cold temperatures for those who stepped outside to participate in the activities. After descriptive remarks from Learwood 8th grader Mackenzie Kaple, who summarized the background of the attacks on Pearl Harbor, members of the 211 performed a 3-shot tribute, and listened to “Taps,” played on a trumpet. Though brief due to the cold temperatures, students and staff at Learwood, along with our friends at American Legion Post 211 made the most of this time, to bear remembrance to a meaningful and tragic day in American History. Thank you to all who attended and helped to organize this special event.
