News - Patriot's Pen Scholarship Recipients at Learwood

Three Learwood students were recently granted scholarship awards as part of the Patriot’s Pen Youth Essay contest sponsored by the local Avon and Avon Lake VFW chapter. Congratulations to the following students who advanced to District 9 level judging in the national contest!

• 1^st place: Evelyn M. Serevitch ($500)
• 2^nd place: Katie C. O'Toole ($300)
• 3^rd place: Caitlin C. Krupitzer ($200)

Each of the above scholarship award winners were selected based on their superbly written response to this year’s essay theme of "How are you inspired by America?” which was chosen by the VFW Commander-in-Chief. More than 132,000 students in grades 6-8 participate in the annual contest which encourages students to examine United States history while reflecting on their individual experiences in modern American society through a 300 to 400 word written essay. Congratulations once again to Evelyn, Katie, and Caitlin for their noteworthy accomplishment!
