Avon Lake City Schools students, staff, administrators and building families all took time to celebrate Veteran’s Day on Monday, November 11th in their own respective and moving ceremonies or tributes. To name a few, at Learwood Middle School, veterans, police officers, community members and more joined students and staff in the auditorium for a morning ceremony that included students playing the Star Spangled Banner on their instruments. At Troy, a special flag raising ceremony took place, led by students, who watched as Old Glory was hoisted high above the building. Avon Lake High School junior trumpeter Mac Mendoza performed his rendition of Taps on his trumpet during the ceremony, which was followed by Troy vocalists singing their version of the National Anthem. Inside Troy is a Wall of Honor, whereby 197 images and biographies were posted of veterans related to students in the building. One veteran relative dated back to World War I. In all, the Avon Lake City Schools thanks our veterans for their sacrifice and their service to our country. Thank you all who made Veteran’s Day a special celebration.
