Reagan Kugel was recognized earlier this spring as a 1st place winner of the Rotary's annual 4-Way Essay Contest, emerging from more than 550 participants from Learwood Middle School and competing against students from other nearby districts. Reagan joined five of her Learwood classmates in achieving top finishes in the contest. The annual competition is one that challenges participants to consider issues of global, political, or personal impact and respond to four prompts: is it the truth? is it fair to all connected? will it build goodwill and better friendships? will it be beneficial to all concerned? These questions are considered the Rotary 4-Way Test and is an organizational principle which considers concerns, needs, and wants to construct goodwill and trust. Reagan’s essay was selected as a first-place finisher among the finalists by the North Coast Rotary Club, who sponsored the contest. The ALCSD also congratulates Learwood’s Rileigh Scarvelli, who finished in 2nd place, Olivia Hock, who finished in 3rd place, and Honorable Mention finishers: Colbie Franks, Quinn Jaroscak, and Elyse Klein. Great job students. Thank you for being fine representatives of the Avon Lake City Schools.
