AP Exam results are in, and after close comparison to past years, last year’s data among Avon Lake students who participated in the district’s AP experience, including courses and exams, are demonstrating significant improvement across a variety of categories. Since 2020, the total number of students taking an AP course has increased from 360 during the ’19-’20 school year to 414 this past school year. The total number of Avon Lake students taking an AP exam is up nearly 25% during the same time frame, with 1,027 of such tests taken during the ’23-’24 school year. Perhaps most impressively, among those students taking AP exams last year, approximately 82% scored a 3 or higher, which is widely recognized as a passing grade. An extraordinary 100% of Avon Lake High School students who took the AP exam in AP 2-D Art, AP Calculus BC, AP Research, AP Seminar, and AP Spanish passed their exam. In addition, 90% of ALHS students who took exams in AP Chemistry, AP Physics C Mechanics, and AP US History passed. According to education sources, the average U.S. High School offers 8 Advanced Placement courses, while Avon Lake has increased its total to 24 offerings as of last school year. Congratulations to the students of Avon Lake High School, the staff members who work tirelessly to prepare them, and our families for their support on this most impressive set of information.
