Dear Students, Parents/Guardians, Staff, and Community Members,

As always, I want to first thank everyone for the time that is being spent and the effort that is being made to help all of us weather this unprecedented situation.  On the first day of March 2020 I would not have believed anyone who had tried to tell me that the school buildings would close in the next two weeks and not reopen until August.  Given the circumstances I can also not be prouder of our staff and students and appreciative of our parents/guardians.  Every day we get better at a different way to teach and a different way to learn.  As we approach June and the end of the 2019-2020 school year all of us should be proud of how far we have come in such a short time.

Please check out the short video in which Dr. Jack Dibee, Curriculum Director of Avon Lake City Schools, and I discuss the end of this school year and the start of 2020-2021 school year.  You can access the video by clicking here.  Please note the following:

  • The process for closing the school year and returning student’s belongings was disseminated last week.  If you have any questions please contact the building Principal.
  • Please continue to work with your teachers on your school work.  With just a few days left in the academic year it is important that we stay focused and remain diligent so we finish the school year academically on a positive note.  Communication with your teachers is key as we finish one school year and set ourselves up for a positive start academically in the fall.

2020 – 2021 School Year

Avon Lake City School District is dedicated to providing the best possible learning environment for all of our students.  The preparation for the 2020-2021 school year is no different as we focus on meeting our students’ needs academically and socially/emotionally.  Planning for next school year is ongoing and as we learn the parameters for having school in the future we will communicate those plans to all of our stakeholders.

There are many unknowns concerning the return to our school buildings in the fall due to the COVID-19 crisis.  Every day something changes and those changes affect us all at home and at the schools.  Your patience is appreciated as we work through the issues surrounding reopening our school buildings, offering a high quality education to our kids regardless of the format, and keeping our students, staff and community as safe as possible.  We will get details out to everyone as soon as they are available.  Again, thank you in advance for your understanding and patience.

Stay safe and lend someone who needs it a helping hand!

Bob Scott, Superintendent
