News - ALCS Breaks Ground on New Middle School

Avon Lake City Schools officially broke ground on the new Middle School to be constructed at the Learwood site on Monday, June 1st, 2026, at 10 a.m. marking this next milestone in the construction process. Superintendent Joelle M. Magyar kicked off the ceremony with reflections on the process and making the vision for this building a legacy for the future, and then introduced Board President Jim Stobe and Mayor Mark Spaetzel for remarks. In groups, dignitaries, elected officials, community leaders, selected students and staff became among the first to shovel the initial scoops of earth for this exciting new building project. The new Avon Lake Middle School is slated to open for the 2028-2029 school year, and please note that the 2027-2028 school year calendar will be published in January 2027, and will reflect a construction timeline different from a traditional school calendar, to accommodate the beginning of construction of the new middle school. Thank you to more than 100 individuals from the greater community who participated in this groundbreaking ceremony for the new Avon Lake Middle School.
