News - ALCS Seeks Parent Feedback on Science Curriculum

ALCS Science Curriculum Open House

The district’s Science curriculum is undergoing its 6-year review cycle for the upcoming school year. This is an exciting time as the district is adopting the Next Generation Science Standards. The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) are K–12 science content standards, and set the expectations for what students should know and be able to do. The NGSS were developed by states to improve science education for all students. You can learn more about the NGSS standards by downloading a parent guide.

A district-level committee representing each building and grade level has examined several different programs. After considerable in-depth review and research, the committee has narrowed down its recommendations (see list below). At the high school level, AP and elective course materials are adopted on a course-by-course basis due to the specialty nature of course offerings. The ALCS welcomes parent feedback on these programs. You can review program materials through the links below.

Save the date for an Open House to preview physical copies of materials and meet with the representatives from the finalist programs. This is scheduled for Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 1:00-3:00 PM at Avon Lake High School in the media center.
