Dear Avon Lake Schools Community,

At their meeting held on July 22, 2020, the Board of Education approved revisions to the 2020-2021 school year calendar for Avon Lake City Schools by revising the start date of school for students only.  For students in Grades 1-12, the new start date of school will now be Monday, August 31, 2020 and for students in Kindergarten, the new start date of school will now be Wednesday, September 2, 2020.
The revised 2020-2021 school year calendar is attached for your use and is always available on our school website at  The revised start dates for students are highlighted on the attached calendar.

Parents of pre-school students, please watch for communication from the LEAPS program in the near future on the pre-school start date and program details.

As a reminder, we are hosting several live Zoom and YouTube Live events for parents to ask questions about our Back to School Plan on the following dates/times:

Tuesday, July 28, 1:00 p.m.
Wednesday, July 29, 9:00 a.m.
Wednesday, July 29, 6:30 p.m.

Links to these events will be posted on our district website in the near future.  Also, please remember our On-Line Learning Registration ends July 31, 2020.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to work on the Back to School Plan for the 2020-2021 school year for Avon Lake City Schools. Moving the opening date to August 31st (Grades 1-12 students) and September 2nd (Kindergarten students) gives the Avon Lake staff the opportunity to work collaboratively in preparing for our students’ return to school, on-line or in-person.  The school day is going to look different, but it is of the utmost importance that staff be given every opportunity to refine student safety procedures and an appropriate curriculum before students begin school.
