He is currently the president of the Ohio Choral Directors Association and on the ACDA Central Division Board. He has also served OCDA as Northeast Regional Chairperson, Ohio high school repertoire standards chair, and historian.
Mr. Zurkey has also served on the Ohio Department of Education curriculum writing team for the fine arts academic standards in music, and is currently an ODE Certified mentor. He has been listed in several Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. He has also been the Director of the Senior Honors Chorale on the Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music Outreach Program and as an adjunct Faculty of Music Education at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music where he directed the Women’s Chorale.
Mr. Zurkey holds a bachelor of music education degree from Bowling Green State University, a master of music degree from Cleveland State University, and has done additional work in doctoral studies at Kent State University.
Mr. Zurkey has also coached football at various levels for thirty years, most recently on the Avon Lake coaching staff as the Head 8th Grade Coach. He is also organist at the Bay United Methodist Church in Bay Village, Ohio. He is married to Sandy, with whom he has two children, Adam and daughter in law Casey, & Megan.
