Attention Parents! Private lesson opportunities

As your son/daughter progresses on a musical instrument through the Avon Lake Band Program, private lessons are provided for your child to enhance their musical development.  It is common, even for students in the 7th grade, to take up private instrumental music lessons.  Lessons do not have to be for those who need to catch up.  Instead, lessons should be used to push your child forward and benefit even more from in-school band/orchestra rehearsals.

The Avon Lake Band Program has a list of approved private instrument instructors with whom we work closely to ensure that your child receives the best music education.  You may retrieve the list of private teachers in the "handouts" portion of the Learwood Instrumental Music Website or by contacting Mr. Ewald @ 933-8142, ext. 2105.

Avon Lake is once again named one of the Best Communitied for Music Education in The United States!

CARLSBAD, Calif., May 4, 2011—In a year that saw budgetary crises and partisan conflict at all levels of government, the NAMM Foundation today announced the results of its 12th annual Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) survey, which acknowledges schools and districts across the U.S. for their commitment to and support for music education in schools.

The BCME survey is a nationwide search for communities whose programs exemplify a strong commitment to music education. Established in 1999, BCME recognizes and celebrates schools, their administrators, teachers, board members, parents and students for their support of music education and their efforts to assure access to all students as part of the core curriculum.

The Learwood Bands are preparing for a couple of performances in November and December.  On November 14, the 8th Grade Band will be participating in our annual Veterans’ Day Ceremony.  The Ceremony will begin at around 7:30 AM with a breakfast for our visiting Military Veterans, served by members of the Learwood Student Council.  Following the breakfast is our annual ceremony honoring the veterans.  The 8th Grade Band will perform the”Star Spangled Banner” and “With Valor and Honor” by Mark Williams.  8th Grade trumpet players Reese Whitely and Brett Litzler will play "Taps" at the end of the ceremony.  The 8th Grade Band members will need to wear their “concert dress” to school as there is no time to change before the ceremony.  They will need to check into their 1st period teachers for attendance and then come directly to the band room for warm-ups.  Students may bring clothes to change into after the ceremony.

On December 14th, the 7th and 8th Grade Bands, the Jazz Band, and the 7th and 8th Grade Orchestra will perform our annual Holiday concert.  The concert will begin at 7:30 PM.  Students need to be in their assigned meeting places at 7:00 PM.  Students are required to wear concert dress (see the Instrumental Music Handbook for further details on concert dress).  There will be a cookies and punch reception after the concert.

For further questions, contact Mr. Ewald via email, Grade Book Wizard, or telephone.

Playing Assessments for 7th Grade Band, 8th Grade Band, and 7th Grade Orchestra are in the "handouts" section of this web site.
