SYMPHONIC BAND AND CONCERT BAND HEADING FOR STATE FINALS FRIDAY NIGHT

The Concert Band will perform at 8:15 PM and the Symphonic Band will perform at 10 PM this Friday night at North Royalton HS at the OMEA State Finals. Both bands qualified for state this year by earning superior ratings at the district contest in March. Not only that, but both bands earned straight “superiors” from the entire panel of judges! And the big news – the Symphonic Band did it while performing Class AA literature, the most difficult level of music and an accomplishment that was last achieved in 1991. Congratulations and good luck to both of our bands! full story

The Avon Lake Symphonic Band, conducted by David Eddleman, in Chicago's Orchestra Hall on March 9th, 2013.

The Avon Lake Symphonic Band, returning from a performance in Chicago's Orchestra Hall on March 9th, earned a superior rating in Class AA one week later at the Ohio Music Education Association District Four Large Group Contest. This was the first time the band has competed at the highest level in OMEA since 1991. The 58 member band, composed of students who are placed by audition, made it a sweep by earning the highest rating attainable from all four of the judges. The band performed "Circus Galop" by Sousa, "O Magnum Mysterium" by Lauridsen/Reynolds, and "Children's March" by Percy Grainger. In the Chicago performance, they also played "Incidental Suite" by C.T. Smith and "Arabesque" by Sam Hazo. The 75 member Avon Lake Concert Band also earned a superior rating at district contest. The director of bands at Avon Lake High School is David Eddleman. full story
