Homework

Homework is given as a reinforcement of daily learning. I usually give homework Monday-Thursday with no homework on Friday.  Usually there is no more than 30 minutes of homework per night. There are occasions when a student may spend weekend time working on a long-term assignment, such as a report.  In addition I encourage students to read for 15 minutes a night either independently or with a parent.

Each student has an assignment book which lists all of his/her assignments. Please check this plan book and sign it each night so that you will become familiar with homework assignments. In addition your child will record the color of his/her behavior card in the planner so you will have knowledge of his or her behavior that day. I also have a homework hotline that lists the night’s work.  Please call 930-8300 and when prompted type in 3106.

If a student completes written work quickly for homework, I encourage that student to spend more time reading. Generally, I do not expect parents to help their children with their homework, but if parents want to be involved in checking assignments or listening to spelling words, I have no objection. The one homework assignment that may require some help is home links in math in which parental support is strongly encouraged.

If your child is having difficulty with homework or is spending an inordinate amount of time completing homework assignments, please let me know so that I may review the concept with your child.
