TEACHING EXPERIENCE: Avon Lake High School, Avon Lake, Ohio, grades 9-12, 1999 to present. 

 

Curriculum

ü      Collaborated on rewriting the English curriculum to meet the Ohio Language Arts Standards.

ü      Led English 9 Honors, TV Productions, Journalism, College Composition, & Speech courses.  

ü      Synthesize Canter’s Assertive Discipline, Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences, Bloom’s Taxonomy, & the Hunter Process Model of Teaching into an active learning atmosphere.

ü      Promote reading comprehension by having students respond to literature.

ü      Stress grammar, punctuation, and clarity in all lessons.

ü      Advocate collaborative learning daily.

ü      Uphold all requirements for special need students.

ü      Attended workshops in curriculum: Curriculum Mapping.  Reading.  Writing formula.  Two TV productions.  Intergenerational Teaching. 

Technology

ü      Integrate technology to extend reading & writing through the making of videos, PowerPoint presentations, Internet searches, & content providers.

ü      Attained the distance learning equipment.  Utilized by 89 teachers & over 700 students in 2003.

ü      Publicized school news to the community via a 24-hour cable channel.

ü      Initiate parent contacts via email and phone to maximize student achievement.

ü      Educated staff through three computer-training sessions & three distance learning sessions. 

ü      Attended workshops in technology: Using a Content Area Website.  Integrating Handhelds.  Web site design.

Professional Development

ü      Authored a successful Youth for Youth grant for $1,000 to prevent violence and promote unity.

ü      Demonstrated life long learning by earning thirty hours beyond master’s degree. 

ü      Enlightened on LPDC responsibilities through training seminar. 

ü      Attended workshops in professional development: Situated Professional Development.  Designing and Evaluating Effective Professional Development. 

 

ADMINISTRATIVE INTERNSHIP: Avon Lake High School, Avon Lake, Ohio, spring 2002.

Curriculum: Implemented new state standards in language arts.  Assisted with creation and implementation of master schedules for 1,100 students and 65 staff. 

Technology: Coordinated with Director of Technology on Avon Lake's technology plan.

Professional Development: Collaborated with parents to encourage absentee voting.  Contributed to the LPDC continuous improvement plan.  Organized and supervised extracurricular events, including Youth 4 Youth, the Homecoming Dance, Prom, assemblies, and athletic contests.

Recipient.  Led two student groups to Europe.  OWE Special Teacher Award Recipient. 

Technology: Ohio SchoolNet Technology Conference Presenter, one of only 25 teachers selected.  Featured Teacher on Education World, a nationally recognized education web site.  Featured in papers for web design.  Competed in the Web Marketing Association Competition. 

Professional Development: Perfect attendance.  Only five sick days in 8 ½ years.  Mentor teacher.  Selected to read names at graduation.
